Panic over
swine flu? Some easily
accessible measures to take.
By
Karim H. Fugel, CHHC
Are
you feeling concern or even panic over all of the news on swine flu? It certainly is at the forefront of many of
our minds and quite difficult to avoid the constant reminders in the media.
I
have pulled together several simple steps you can take as preventative measures
or even once any type of flu symptoms appear.
1.
Hand
washing number one on the
list and something we cannot do enough.
This is such an important step to teach our children. When a sink is not available try alcohol-free
hand sanitizer.
2.
Sleep sleep is the time our bodies regenerate
and heal. This is especially important
during the high-flu seasons and proper rest allows our immune system to fight
the germs it meets.
3.
Hydration most of us are de-hydrated without being
aware of it. Be sure to drink plenty of
water to keep your cells in tiptop shape to combat viruses.
4.
Eliminate
Sugar viruses feed on
sugar. When there is no processed sugar
in our systems, we create an inhospitable environment for the bugs. No need to avoid the sugars occurring
naturally in fruits, just avoid the processed kind and read all labels for any
added sugars in packaged foods.
5.
Turmeric
add a teaspoon or more to
soups & sauces to boost your immune system.
6.
Zinc
Lozenges taken with
Vitamin C, zinc has been found to substantially shorten the life of the virus.
7.
Chicken
Soup the nurturing
quality of grandmas chicken soup kicks our immune system into high gear. The minerals found in the soup help maintain
our balance, which in-turn makes us less susceptible to unwelcome viruses.
8.
Oil
Therapy oil therapy has
been used for centuries and can reduce stress and congestion. Try eucalyptus for opening the passageways
for breathing and creating a sense of calm.
Add a few drops to a warm washcloth and place on chest. Breathe deeply.
